Moving to a new town is stressful. Once you have physically moved into your new house, there are still things that need to be taken care of to make the place home. Do not forget to consider the needs of any animals you have. The best and easiest way to take care of all your pets' needs is to go to the local pet supply store. Purchase any food or other supplies you need, but also check any bulletin boards, signs, or newsletters on the counter for upcoming special events. You might be surprised at what you can get accomplished for your animals at the supply store.

Immunization Clinics

Many pet supply stores have regular events where your pets can receive low-cost immunizations. You may even be able to purchase all the shots except rabies and administer them yourself. Then, on the day of the event, your pets can receive their rabies shot and the documentation to go with it.

Find a Pet Doctor

While at the immunization clinic, talk with the veterinarian. You can learn a lot about the pet doctor by watching how he or she interacts with all the pets and their owners during a busy clinic day. If there are any special concerns, or your pet needs special medications, you can ask the vet them about and make an appointment for a checkup.

Grooming

If your pet requires special grooming, the local pet store may have a groomer on site. If not, groomers will often place notices for the services they offer at supply stores. This can include bathing and clipping your long-haired dog, finding a farrier, or someone to come shear your sheep.

New Additions to the Family

Getting a new dog or cat is usually not too hard to accomplish. One of the best places to start looking is at the local animal shelter. A pet supply store will have information about the different shelters in the area. If you are looking for livestock, the store may have pens outside where people bring the ones they are selling. The store may also have notices or lists of people who have, or will have pigs, chickens, and even goats and horses for sale.

Your pets are part of the family, when you move it is an adjustment to them too. Make sure you get new tags to put on their collars in case they decide to try to find their way back to your old home. Having some type of relationship with a local pet supply store is important to the health of your pets in many ways. Go and visit one soon after you move to get things started. Talk to a local vet like Aspen Park Veterinary Hospital for store suggestions.
